The Mississippi Business Journal Online calls disabled employees "very capable, dedicated people." It's true. Disabled workers are a valuable and often ignored resource for business. They sit on the sidelines waiting for a chance to contribute. Once they are hired they become part of the team . . . a hard working part of the team.
Annela Soran, a visually impaired employment recruiter says, "I think someone with a disability has the motivation to work twice as hard to just prove that they can be average . . . But usually they will come out much better than average, because they try harder and because they are dedicated."
In a recent survey, the average cost to accomodate disabled workers was less than $100 for approximately one-third of those surveyed. It doesn't seem like very much to pay to make a skilled and dedicated workforce available. Does it?
