Everyone sells, but most people are not successful at it. Here are some suggestions for you. Look them over and see how many tips you are already using. If you're not using very many, and you could stand some sales improvement, you might want to adopt some or all of these tricks of the trade.

  1. Set Goals - Be aware that goals fill needs. Never pick goals out of the air. What are your needs? Answer that question first and then set your goals to fill your needs.
  2. Employ Self-management Techniques - Every good sales person has to be a self-starter. Make wise use of your time and your abilities.
  3. Don't procrastinate - Do the things you hate first and do them quickly.
  4. Maintain a positive Attitude - Remember that "No" means "Maybe" and "Maybe" means "Yes."
  5. Take an interest in your customer, suppliers, and co-workers - This is something you can't fake. Take a genuine interest in those around you. We're all in this together (As Red Green says.).

  6. Ask questions and listen - How can you provide what your customers really need if you don't ask them and find out. Sometimes you'll find out that what you thought you knew was the complete opposite of the real truth.

  7. Make contact - Letter and e-mail are fine, but face to face contact is always the best way to make a sale and keep a relationship.

  8. Keep your promises - Always do what you say you're going to do. Deliver more than you promise.
  9. Educate yourself -  Education is always needed. It's the best investment you can make in your life.  You can only upskill, improve and achieve your goals in life by changing yourself.
